Like many naturopaths, my journey into this field began with personal health struggles that weren’t adequately addressed by conventional medicine. At 25, while living in Victoria Park, Perth, my health took a drastic downturn. I experienced severe digestive issues, rapid weight loss, muscle deterioration, and spent days bedridden, eventually diagnosed with Typhus, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and a few other conditions, after three years of uncertainty.
Desperate for answers, I turned to a naturopath and other alternative healthcare providers, which set me on a path to recovery. Alongside this physical transformation, I underwent a profound spiritual awakening – a “dark night of the soul” that transformed me into a new version of myself. During this period of introspection and growth, I developed a deeper appreciation for the mind-body connection and the power of natural remedies.
Immersing myself in research during my healing process, I discovered a profound thirst for knowledge that couldn’t be quenched. I enrolled in a Bachelor of Complementary Medicine, devouring every bit of information on holistic healing modalities, herbal remedies, and nutritional therapies. This initial study inspired me to further my education with a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy, driven by a desire to help others on their wellness journeys.
Today, I find myself living and practising from my Naturopathy Clinic in the beautiful suburb of Kalamunda, nestled in the Perth hills on the Darling Scarp. My house sits beside the breathtaking Mundy Regional Park, overlooking the suburb of Forrestfield and the greater Perth City skyline. This natural oasis is a herbalist and naturopath’s dream, abundant with native bushland, wildflowers like Donkey Orchids, Yellow Eyed Flame Pea, Cowslip Orchids, and White Spider Orchids during wildflower season. We are surrounded with (mostly) friendly local animals, including kangaroos, cockatoos, eagles, magpies, kookaburras, quendas, geckos, and goannas.
The land is rich with bush medicine, and the local flora provides invaluable ingredients for flower essence preparations and herbal remedies. Kalamunda’s natural beauty is complemented by a vibrant community that celebrates holistic living. On the first Saturday of each month, the Kalamunda Artisan Markets showcase local artisans, craftspeople, and producers, offering a unique shopping experience. Sunday fruit and vegetable markets provide access to fresh, locally grown produce, while Friday night markets during summer create a lively atmosphere with food stalls, live music, and community gatherings.
Local businesses like Yoga Maya ( yogamaya.com.au) offer nourishing yoga classes for all levels, encouraging mindfulness and connection with the self. The boutique shops along Haynes Street, such as Herb Circle The Micro Collective Kalamunda, and Cafe’s provide a welcoming atmosphere, with many offering organic, locally-sourced ingredients and eco-friendly products, small-batch, hand-made products, aligning with the principles of holistic living.
As a naturopath in Kalamunda, I am grateful to be surrounded by such natural wonders and a community that embraces holistic living. The peaceful environment and abundance of natural resources provide the perfect setting for my practice. If you find yourself in the area, I encourage you to explore the hiking trails of Mundy Regional Park and Whistlepipe Gully, immerse yourself in nature, and experience the rejuvenating energy of this Perth hills gem. And, of course, don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re seeking naturopathic care – I’d be honoured to guide you on your journey to optimal wellness.
